Your First Visit
Upon your first visit to our office, you will be greeted by one of our staff and they will introduce you to the Doctor and provide you will a tour of our office.
We ask that you please bring any relevant insurance forms, insurance cards and completed health history form. You can access a health history form from our website….if you prefer you can complete this form at our office. We also ask that you bring any of the financial (financing) forms with you. This will help to speed up the process.
We typically conduct an initial orthodontic examination and take orthodontic records at your first appointment. This process typically requires an hour of your time.
We utilize a sophisticated case presentation program to present and demonstrate our findings and recommendations and exactly how treatment works.
The next step is the consultation….here is where we will explain the treatment plan in more detail and the corresponding fees associated with your specific treatment plan. We can conduct the consultation at the initial visit or it can be scheduled as a second appointment.
Should you determine the treatment is acceptable, we can then complete the records process and initiate treatment. If you decide to combine these appointments please allow between 90 minutes to 2 hours.
If it is determined that Suresmile is a good fit for the prescribed treatment, we will scan the mouth and enter the corresponding data into a computer for 3D simulation. This process typically requires an hour to an hour and a half.
We also provide each of our patients with a Sonicare electric toothbrush and new patient kit.
The amount of time required for care varies depending upon the procedure or state of care that a patient is currently experiencing. As a rule of thumb the following times should be reserved in your schedule for each stage of treatment.
- Initial Orthodontic Examination: 30-60 minutes
- Orthodontic Clinical Records: 30-40 minutes
- Consultation Appointment: 60 minutes
- Bonding Appointments: 90 minutes to 2 hours
- Adjustment Appointments: 15-20 minutes
We like to combine the initial exam, records and consult appointment whenever possible. If it is convenient for our patients.
After school visits typically start at 3:00pm to 4:20pm and are typically 15 to 20 minute appointments. These are typically adjustment appointments. We do not schedule longer appointments after 3pm. Bonding appointments are usually in mornings between 8:30am and 12pm or between 2pm-3pm.
Late arrivals will have to wait. If you are more than 15 minutes late, we may have to reschedule. Multiple missed appointments may lead to stopping orthodontic treatment. We will do all that we can to help you maintain your appointments.
How does orthodontic insurance work? There are many different agreements between insurance carriers and their subscribers, and each contract provides a different benefit.
However, orthodontic insurance generally differs from regular dental insurance in that each insured individual usually has a lifetime maximum benefit for orthodontic services. This benefit is paid as a percentage of the orthodontic fee (diagnostic records, initial fee, monthly payments, etc.) until the benefit maximum has been reached. Charges for lost or broken appliances may not be covered by insurance.
How does this office assist you with insurance? For your convenience we will gladly assist you in submitting insurance claims pertaining to charges for care rendered in our office.
However, please be aware our primary financial relationship is with our patients or their families and not with their respective insurance companies. Final responsibility for collections of benefits from your insurance company rests with the insured party. Our professional services are rendered and charged directly to the patient or their family and the are responsible for payment of all fees incurred. We will information the insurance carrier to direct all money to the patient.
Know what your benefits are before treatment starts. If you are not sure contact your insurance company so you know exactly how much you can expect to be paid and when to expect payment. If desired, we will submit a pre-treatment claim for determination of benefits for you. If you would like our office to submit claim forms prior to treatment, we ask you provide us with the name, address and telephone number of your insurance carrier as well as the appropriate forms. Please complete the insured or employee portion of your form and sign where indicated. We can not render services on the assumption our charges will be paid by an insurance carrier. For your convenience, we will accept payments from your insurance company assigned to us by the insured. Such payments will be credited accordingly to your account. If your company requires verification of continuing treatment, you may send them a copy of your cancelled checks or cash receipts. If your insurance carrier provides a form for verification of continuing treatment, we will be glad to complete the signature portion.
